A celebration of cycling will take place in Corby as the Women’s Tour passes through the county.

Corby will welcome the world’s top female cyclists to the town as the third stage of the Aviva Women’s Tour passes through shortly after 11am on Friday.

This year’s Cyclefest has been given that extra bit of excitement with the news of the Aviva Women’s Tour passing through Corby

16 of the world’s most talented cyclists will tackle the climb from Rockingham into Corby and head through the town.

And anyone inspired by the world class athletes is invited to head to Corby Council’s annual Cyclefest event on Friday and Saturday where countless amounts of free pedal-powered activities will be available for people to try.

First up is the Core Theatre’s Pedal Powered Cinema, which will show two cycle-related films, which will be Bicycle and the classic ET.

Bicycle will be shown at 7.30pm on Friday, followed by a question and answer session with the director.

ET will be shown at 10.30am on Saturday.

Free tickets can be ordered for either film from the Core Box Office in the Corby Cube or by calling 01536 470470.

On Saturday, the Adrenaline Alley Half Pipe BMX show, Danny Butler’s Extreme Mountain Bike Show and Style Riders Flat Land Show will take place outside Corby Cube from 10am until 2.30pm.

These three performances will showcase some amazing talent right outside of the Corby Cube and will include top professionals in the field such as Keelan Phillips, multiple international BMX Champion and professional riders Isaac Lessor, Cam Peake and Australian rider Josh Matthews.

Also on offer on Saturday from 10am to 3pm will be a selection of crazy bikes, including a double-height tall bike to arm-cycled tricycles and a mini penny-farthing.

There will also be information available about this year’s Sky Ride Local Guided Rides Programme.

Sky Ride Local rides are guided by friendly British Cycling Ride Leaders along scenic planned routes.

With different levels, there’s something for everyone – whether you’re building your confidence or already comfortable on a bike and looking for a challenge.

All Sky Ride Local rides are led by British Cycling trained Ride Leaders – real cycling enthusiasts who know the routes and can encourage and guide you along the way.

People can also take their own bike along for a visit of Doctor Bike, who will be on hand to give it a full health check to ensure it is ready for summer bike rides.

Any minor repairs that are required, such as brake and gear adjustments, mending punctures and inflating tyres, and lubricating the chain will be undertaken, are free of charge.

If any repairs or parts are required that cannot be fixed at the event, Doctor Bike will advise you of these and how to get them fixed.

There will be many more cycling themed activities on the day, with local bike enthusiasts the Corby Cruisers, free rickshaw rides and free pedal powered smoothies from Electric Corby.

Corby Council’s cycle champion, Cllr Paul Beattie, said: “This year’s Cyclefest has been given that extra bit of excitement with the news of the Aviva Women’s Tour passing through Corby.

“I would urge everyone to come along and line the route on Friday to see some world class cycling in action.

“And why not continue the cycling hype throughout the weekend by joining out Cyclefest event for absolutely free?

“I hope to see lots of people out on both days to enjoy a weekend of pedal powered fun.”
