Castle to mark Dickens’ bicentenary

Rockingham Castle is planning an exclusive fundraising event to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickens.

It has teamed up with The Core theatre, Corby, and Royal & Derngate, in Northampton, to plan a night of readings of Dickens’ work, set in the rooms where the author spent many happy hours visiting the Watson family, the castle owners, to whom he dedicated the book David Copperfield.

The event will take place on Friday, December 14, when guests will be served sparkling wine and a hot buffet.

Royal & Derngate’s community choir will sing Christmas carols and there will be an opportunity to bid for exciting prizes in a spectacular charity auction.

Funds raised on the night will be used to support the extensive work that Royal & Derngate and The Core do with young people in Northamptonshire.

Tickets for A Christmas Castle – A Celebration Of Dickens, which will start at 7.30pm, cost £70.

They can be booked by calling Royal & Derngate’s box office on 01604 624811 and The Core on 01536 470470.

Charles Dickens’ most famous festive tale of all, A Christmas Carol, will be brought to life at Royal & Derngate this year in a production for all the family.

It will run from Wednesday, November 28, to Sunday, January 6. For more information go to or call 01604 624811.
