The RSPCA shelter in Brixworth is hosting its first rehoming day on Sunday, in a bid to find homes for 18 animals of all ages.

The event is due to take place in the new Hope Cattery, which was largely funded by lifetime supporter, Celia Hope and is due to be opened later this year.

Adoptions manager, Emma Markham, said: “We are incredibly thankful to have been left a large legacy from Mrs Hope.

“She was a lifetime supporter and helped out in many ways.

“Although we are affiliated to the National RSPCA we are a separate registered charity and have to raise all our own funds. Without Mrs Hope’s legacy we would not have been able to build our own cattery.”

One cat named Mario has been at the branch for six months after being handed into the vets suffering from a poorly eye.

Staff say the scar on his eye and his shy nature seems to “deter” people from adopting him.

Ms Markham said: “We really hope that having a central place to view cats will increase our adoptions, which will enable us to help more cats throughout the County.”

Anyone wishing to re-home a rabbit would need to pay £40 and a cat or a kitten can be rehomed for a fee of £65.

Cats and rabbits can be reserved on the day with a home visit be carried out the following week.

All of the animals come with the necessary health checks and four weeks of free insurance from Petplan.

The event is due to take place from between 11am and 2pm at Mill Cottage on Creaton Road, Brixworth.
