East Midlands specialist recruitment company Macildowie has been named one of the top five small companies to work for in the UK and the best in the Midlands.

The business has been ranked fifth in The Sunday Times Best Small Companies to Work For 2014 awards, based on key people factors including staff satisfaction and engagement.

Macildowie recruits across the region and has offices in Leicester and Nottingham.

It employs 58 people and specialises in HR, finance and procurement, sales and marketing and supply chain recruitment.

It is the highest placed Midlands company to appear in the prestigious list, and all of its own employees believed their managers cared for them as individuals and they felt a strong sense of family within their teams.

Macildowie chief executive James Calder said: “We are delighted to receive a top five placing in the Sunday Times Best Companies list again in 2014.

“We were very proud of our seventh place in 2012 and are thrilled to have improved on this.

“We work hard to ensure that Macildowie is a great place to work and are immensely proud of the people who work in our business.

“Our success is directly correlated to the wellbeing and positive motivation of the team.”

Macildowie counts Boots, Speedo, Travis Perkins and E.ON among its clients.

Macildowie director James Taylor said: “We pride ourselves on making sure our staff enjoy coming to work.

“Communication is critical, we talk to our team and carry out regular personal development reviews to find out what motivates them, and we reward people for coming up with new and innovative ideas for us to implement.

“We have also recently introduced flexible working hours so staff can juggle their family needs and those of the business and we’ve given employees an extra day holiday on their birthday.

“Both of these have resulted in an overwhelmingly positive response from staff.”

James added: “We are constantly striving to improve and are delighted that we have been recognised once again, for all our efforts.”
