A 60-bed care home is opening on the site of a former pub in Wellingborough.

Avery Healthcare is opening Dukes Court on the site of the Duke of York pub in Northampton Road, and is looking to recruit up to 30 people.

The company has worked hard to create links with the town by naming the home after the former pub as well as one of the suites.

In a further nod to local links, another suite is called the Ebdon suite, after world snooker champion Peter Ebdon, who lived in the town.

The third is called the Benjamin Suite after Trevor Benjamin, the ex-Wellingborough Town and Northampton Town footballer.

The company held an open day so people could see what Dukes Court can offer.

Home manager Zoe Kirk said: “We are strongly committed to the people of Wellingborough, and the open day was our chance to show them what a beautiful home we have developed for the community.

“We invited local schools and many community groups in, and we want them to feel that Dukes Court is part of their lives and that we are part of theirs.”

Zoe has also approached the Papworth Trust, which supports disabled and older individuals in finding work, to hire staff for the home, and plans to have several places for individuals from the trust as part of her team.

There are still vacancies at the home, and Zoe said: “We still need to hire 20 to 30 further staff, so please do contact us.

“Working in care is both rewarding and satisfying.”
