A 12-year-old Burton Latimer schoolgirl who was born in a leap year will celebrate her third ‘official’ birthday today.
Charlotte Duncalf, a Year 7 pupil at The Latimer Arts College, was born on February 29, 2004, but normally celebrates her birthday on March 1 each year.
Mum Helen Revett says the occasion makes her feel special.
She said: “A lot of people don’t understand it and I think she likes to explain it to them.
“It makes her feel special because when it comes to a leap year it’s much more of an occasion than a standard birthday.
“At the weekend Charlotte went for a meal with her friends and we made her a special cake.
“I actually went into labour a week late and said at the time I thought she would be born on February 29.”
Also celebrating his real birthday today is Philip Capps of Kettering, who is 64 but has only had 16 ‘proper’ birthdays.
