Judy Carne made her name on stage and television screens in this country before going on to stardom in America in Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In alongside Goldie Hawn in the 1960s.

Judy, who died last September, grew up in Kingsthorpe, Northamptonshire, and exhibited talent as a performer from an early age. After training at the Bush Davies Theatrical School for Girls at East Grinstead, she made both her West End and TV debuts in 1961. As a regular guest on the panel show Juke Box jury and a role in the Rag-trade, Judy became a celebrity and also landed her first role in a feature film, A Pair of Briefs.

Her career gathered momentum and Judy left for America. Her comical persona as the ‘Sock It To Me’ girl on the hit US television show, Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In made Judy one of the best known personalities of her generation.

The success of Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In led to further appearances in other Iconic 1960s TV shows, including The Man from U.N.C.L.E. In 1963 she married Burt Reynolds and throughout the 1960s she had been romantically linked with stars such as Vidal Sassoon, Steve McQueen and Warren Beatty.

Judy eventually returned to the UK and retired to Northamptonshire, where she lived a quiet life in Pitsford until her death at the age of 76.
