One of the men then stated they had “got the wrong address,” a police spokeswoman said, and they ran back out of the house through the front door.

Nothing was stolen.

One of the suspects was described as white, about 5ft 10 inches tall, with a medium build.

He was wearing dark clothing, including a black balaclava and spoke with a local accent.

The second man was also white, about 5ft 6 inches tall, with a skinny build and in his late teens to early 20s.

He had a pale complexion and light to medium brown eyebrows. He was wearing a light-grey hooded top.

A third man with a “local accent” was heard by the victims, and it is believed there may have been a fourth man with him.

As it is a busy area, officers are appealing for anyone who was in Raymond Road or the surrounding area around the time of the incident, and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, to contact police.

The force is keen to hear from anyone who was at the nearby bus stop and who may have seen the men arriving at or leaving the house.

Witnesses, or anyone with information, should contact Northamptonshire Police on 101 or on 0800 555111.
