BREAKING NEWS: Man arrested on suspicion of murder by police investigating Northampton woman's disappearance

A 51-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder by police investigating the disappearance of a 20-year-old woman from Northampton.

Detectives searching for India Chipchase confirmed tonight that a body had been discovered at house in Northampton.

Earlier this evening, a statement by Miss Chipchase’s family had confirmed she had passed away.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “Enquiries taking place as part of the search for India Chipchase, 20, led officers to the property in Stanley Road, St James, where the body of a woman was found.

“Formal identification has yet to take place but India’s family have been informed of the discovery.

“A 51-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody at the Criminal Justice Centre.

“A post mortem examination is expected to take place at Leicester Royal Infirmary tomorrow, Monday, 1 February.”

In a statement issued on social media, Miss Chipchase’s brother, Harry, said: “I am deeply saddened to confirm that India Eve Chipchase has passed away. Please respect our privacy at this time.”

Miss Chipchase, 20, was out with friends in Northampton town centre in the early hours of Saturday, January 30, when she was last seen in Bridge Street, at about 1.15am.
