A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy died after fire engulfed his home as he slept.
Brave firefighters pulled the boy from the burning house in Edinburgh Road, Kettering, yesterday morning, but he died at Kettering General Hospital a few hours later.
His parents, two-year-old brother and another adult escaped as flames tore up the side of the house and thick smoke filled the street at about 7.20am.
Warren Ellison, who is station manager at Kettering Fire Station, said: “The street was full of smoke and firefighters made their way into the house after being told by the boy’s mother that he was in an upstairs bedroom. She said they had woken up and had smelled smoke and had evacuated the property.
“The boy was brought out and treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where he sadly, despite the best efforts of staff, later died.”
The road was closed as fire officers and police investigated the cause of the blaze yesterday.
