Blades take to the skies in charity formation flight over Northamptonshire

Northamptonshire-based Blades carried out a charity formation flight with a luck prize winner on board.

The Blades Aerobatic Team, based at Sywell Aerodrome, joined forces with Channel 4’s BAFTA-winning Paralympic presenter, Arthur Williams to provide the formation flight of a lifetime in aid of British flying charity Aerobility.

The formation flight between The Blades and Arthur’s two-seater Piper Cub was a top auction prize at the Aviators Ball, an annual fundraiser held in December aid of Aerobility.

The lucky prize winner, Helen Lowde, got to enjoy back-seat, open-cockpit views over Northamptonshire as she flew in the Cub with Flying to the Ends of the Earth presenter Arthur just feet apart from The Blades.

Arthur, a former Royal Marine, was left paralysed from the waist down after a car accident eight years ago.

After leaving the service Arthur was determined to rebuild his life and, through the help of Aerobility, has since gained his private pilot’s licence and now owns the modified and adapted Piper Cub.

As an ambassador and beneficiary for Aerobility, Arthur has experienced first-hand the life-changing effects that the charity has.

One of The Blades’ charity partners for 2015, Aerobility aims to offer disabled people, without exception, the opportunity to participate in aviation based activities.

The charity owns a fleet of specially adapted light aircraft that are used every year to support over 400 physically disabled, learning-disabled, wounded servicemen and women and sensory impaired people.
