A bin man has died after a collision with his vehicle in a Northamptonshire town

Police say at around 9.30am the bin man and his lorry were involved in a collision around the northern end of Ashby Road near Langdon Close.

Police, ambulance and fire crews attended the scene and investigations into how the collision occurred are taking place, in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive.

Ashby Road, near the junction of Langdon Close, remains closed and motorists are advised to take alternative routes.

Rob Edmondson, director environmental services at Amey which runs Daventry District Council’s bin collection service said: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm that one of our employees has died this morning.

“We are unable to provide further details about this incident at present, however our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family and friends affected, and we are working with the police to establish how this tragic event has taken place.

“We have ceased collections for the rest of today in order to support our employees in light of this news.”

Ian Vincent, chief executive of Daventry District Council said: “We are shocked and saddened by this terrible, tragic incident during today’s bin round in Daventry. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the crew member’s family, friends and colleagues at Amey.”

Northamptonshire Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this collision or who may have any information regarding it.
