MOST people might expect to celebrate their 21st birthday with a party – but not Billy Lenton.
Instead of enjoying himself with family and friends, the father-of-three spent his landmark birthday bringing his new-born daughter, Shania, into the world.
Mr Lenton, of Louisa Drive, Kettering, called for an ambulance last Wednesday when his girlfriend, Kerry Radford, went into labour.
But the baby came so soon that he had to deliver Shania himself at home.
Mr Lenton said: “I was supposed to be going out with my mates. We were going to go for a drink but I knew I couldn’t go very far.
“It’s always a bit nerve-racking going out when your girlfriend is pregnant as you don’t want to leave her.
“I just got on with it really. I had to try and keep calm for Kerry.
“It was a great experience for me delivering my daughter on my birthday – she’s a present I will never forget.
“I’m sure my birthday won’t be the same now as she’ll get all the attention.”
Mr Lenton and Miss Radford, 22, also have two other children together – five-year-old Ryan and two-year-old Julian.
Miss Radford said her daughter, who weighed 6lbs 8.5oz at birth, is healthy.
She added: “It was hectic. I had contractions at about 8pm but thought it was just Braxton Hicks.
“I stepped outside the house to see if I could see the ambulance but I had to sit back on the sofa as I had the urge to start pushing.
“The ambulance got here about half an hour later and I was sitting there with the baby.”
