Attendance is up at town leisure centres

PERFORMANCE figures and attendance at two Wellingborough Council-owned gyms will be discussed at a meeting on Monday.

The council’s community committee will be told how the Redwell Leisure Centre and the Waendel Gym have been performing over the past year.

A report to the committee states that attendance figures for the Redwell centre are 18 per cent above targets, with 106,188 visits over the past year.

A 300 per cent rise in the number of people attending fitness classes is cited as a reason for the increased performances figures.

Attendance at aerobics and other exercise classes has risen from 5,779 in 2010-11 to 23,901 in 2011-12.

Gym attendance has also gone up from 25,218 in 2010-11 to 36,605 during 2011-12.

The number of people exercising at the Waendel Leisure Centre, off Cannon Street, is also above targets by 15 per cent.

A total of 379,404 visits were made to the centre over the past year.

The amount of people attending exercise classes has also increased. There has been a 31 per cent rise, from 28,500 in 2010-11 to 37,441 in 2011-12.

The number of people using the gym has also risen by 41 per cent, from 115,846 visits in 2010-11 to 163,351 in 2011-12.
