Ashleigh and Pudsey capture nation’s hearts – and £500,000

Ashleigh Butler and her dog Pudsey are the pride of the county after they were named champions of Britain’s Got Talent.

Ashleigh and Pudsey will now perform for the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance. Their other prize for triumphing on the show was £500,000.

The pair, from Wellingborough, wowed the show’s judges and a nation of viewers with a fast-paced routine to the theme of Mission Impossible.

The impressive routine included Pudsey running across the judges’ desk.

After the routine the judges gave the pair a standing ovation.

David Walliams said: “Ashleigh, I can’t believe you have come out here and done another new act.

“I don’t know how long it takes to train Pudsey to do these acts but it’s the third original act we have seen from you, which is extraordinary, and the nation has fallen in love, not just with Pudsey but you too Ashleigh. I think you’re the ones to beat, I really do.”

Alesha Dixon said: “I can’t cope, this moment right now is too much. I think what you are doing for anyone out there in this country that treats animals wrongly, what you are doing and showing them [is] how special dogs are and what you can do and achieve with the right owner and love.

“You Ashleigh are a star and Pudsey... I can’t cope. David’s right, you are the ones to beat.”

Amanda Holden said the performance was “unbelievable” and “sensational”.

Simon Cowell said the pair were “one of my favourite ever acts” and said: “You are a fantastic example, I adore both of you Ashleigh and Pudsey.

“You know what, you have got better and better as the competition has progressed and to do what you did in such a short time, it’s a miracle, congratulations to both of you.”

Ashleigh told hosts Ant and Dec that Pudsey had been “very, very diva-ish” in the week leading up to the final and had even had a gourmet steak dinner.

After she was named the winner a shocked Ashleigh told the two hosts: “I just want to say a massive thank you for everyone that voted for me and I am just so proud of Pudsey and it means so much.”

When she was asked on spin-off show Britain’s Got More Talent at which point she thought the duo could go on to win the show, she said: “Never. I mean, it was just cool to get into the final and do our best.”

When asked what she would buy first with her winnings Ashleigh said food for Pudsey “and a new bed, maybe”.

When asked to sum up how she was feeling in one word, the teenager said: “Phenomenal”.
