Asbo menace locked up after terrorising town shop staff

A notorious violent thief who was banned from Corby town centre for repeatedly stealing from shops is behind bars after ignoring the court order.

Robert Rush, 35, was given an Asbo in July last year after racking up a string of convictions for shoplifting and public order offences.

The order forced Rush, of Clarke Road, Corby, to stay out of of the town centre, an area bordered by Anne Street, George Street, Cottingham Road and Elizabeth Street, unless he was attending an appointment with the probation office. The order also stated he must not stay in any shop premises in Corby when asked to leave by store staff or security workers.

He was spared jail for earlier breaches by magistrates in April after agreeing to work with the probation service on dealing with his issues.

But last week he once again appeared before magistrates, this time in Wellingborough, to face new theft charges and several breaches of his Asbo. He also admitted not complying with his community order.

Rush admitted the breaches and magistrates jailed him for six months. It is expected he will serve half of his sentence.
