Appeal to keep supporting Wellingborough's Castle theatre despite uncertain future

The Castle theatre in Wellingborough was put into administration this week, with administrators saying they are working hard to find a solution to secure its long term future.

A statement has since been issued on the theatre website, which is encouraging people to keep using the theatre by buying tickets and getting involved with its various workshops, film screenings and exhibitions.

It states: “As you may be aware The Castle (Wellingborough) Limited, the company that operates The Castle theatre, Wellingborough, has been placed into administration.

“This should not be confused with liquidation.

“It is the intention of the joint administrators to fulfil the packed Summer 2016 programme which consists of 250 educational and workshop sessions, 59 community performances, 56 professional live shows, 32 film screenings, 25 private and business functions and eight visual art exhibitions by local artists.

“You will appreciate to fulfil the programme the administrators will require the support of those, such as yourself, who understand the importance of arts and culture.

“That support will also promote securing the employment of 38 people and safeguarding a centre of culture for the town.”

Joint administrator Gary Pettit said: “We are all working hard to find a solution to the task that confronts us whereby the future of the theatre can be secured in the long term.

“It is very encouraging the council are fully supportive and share the aims of the joint administrators in terms of protecting this centre of culture.”
