Dog walkers are angry about the litter and vandalism at a popular recreation ground.

People who use Finedon Recreation Ground regularly say there has been a huge increase in the amount of litter dumped there and in incidences of vandalism.

Bill Coyne walks his dog in the park. He said: “Nobody wants to do anything. The problem has been gradually getting worse this year.

“The boy racers come down here from about 7pm onwards and they leave such a mess. There are six or seven of us who walk our dogs here regularly and we always pick up after them.

“Children designed posters about the litter and put them up on the gates but they just got torn down.

“It really frustrates you. It’s our money that is being spent on sending a cleaner with a machine over here every day for two hours.”

Trish Harding also walks her dog in the park and she said: “It’s absolutely atrocious. There is broken glass and smashed bottles. This is the worst it’s ever been.

“Parents have to pick up all sorts of things before their children can use the play area.”

A Wellingborough Council spokesman said: “We’re aware of the issue of litter and vandalism at the recreation ground. Last week an enforcement operation was carried out, which resulted in the police being called and a number of offenders having to give their details to the environmental warden. Further follow-up enforcement action is also planned.”
