Two football club officials enjoyed a reception with the Prime Minister to recognise the work they do in the community.
Chairman of AFC Rushden & Diamonds Ralph Burditt and vice-chairman Jon Ward were nominated to attend last week’s event on behalf of the club by prospective parliamentary candidate for Corby and East Northants Tom Pursglove.
During their trip to London, they also took the opportunity to meet Wellingborough and Rushden MP Peter Bone and Mr Pursglove to discuss the current situation surrounding the search for a long-term home for the football club.
Following their meeting, the football club will be sending a letter to Number 10 as well as corresponding further with Mr Bone and Mr Pursglove as the club continues to look for a permanent place to host the home matches of its 34 teams.
Speaking to afcdiamonds.com after the event, Mr Burditt: “It was a very successful trip and I was delighted to be able to meet with the Prime Minister and to tell him all about some of the wonderful work which is done by volunteers here at the club.
“I also came away from the meeting with Peter and Tom feeling very positive.
“Both seem genuinely interested in the problem of finding AFC Rushden & Diamonds a permanent place to play and have said that they will do what they can to help.”
Mr Bone and Mr Pursglove have further shown their support by signing up as member owners of the club.
