A 12-year-old girl suffered a fractured skull after a collision with a car in Rushden.

The incident happened on Saturday (June 29) in Washbrook Road, in the town, and the girl was subsequently airlifted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital with a minor fracture to the skull.

Sergeant Tony Hopkins, of Northants Police, said the incident happened just after 5pm and involved one vehicle.

He said, at this moment, it was unclear whether the girl was crossing the road, or running across, when the vehicle hit her head-on.

Sgt Hopkins added: “There is nothing to suggest that the driver was doing anything untoward.”

The Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance was called out to the incident.

A spokesman for the service said: “The air ambulance paramedics sedated the casualty before flying her to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
