The A14 near Thrapston was shut for a number of hours overnight after a lorry tipped over and crossed the central reservation.
The dual carriageway was closed in both directions between junctions 13 at Thrapston and 16 near Molesworth in Cambridgeshire.
A spokesman for Northants Police confirmed they had been called at about 10.40pm last night (Sunday, April 27) to an incident in which a lorry heading west had crossed the central reservation. It also tipped over and spilled oil across the road.
The road was closed in both directions while the clean-up operation took place, co-ordinated by the Highways Agency. A crane was used to right the lorry.
The eastbound carriageway reopened at about 4am, with the westbound carriageway reopening at 5.20am.
Diversions were put in place while the road was shut.
The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital with what the police spokesman described as minor injuries.
