A year singer Faryl won't forget

She may only be 14, but Faryl Smith can look back on an incredible year – with so much more to follow.

As Faryl celebrates her 14th birthday today, she has already had 12 months that most teenagers would be envious of.

From the reception she received on Britain's Got Talent to smashing album records, the Kettering schoolgirl is looking forward to more of the same as she prepares to start recording her second album.

After a short summer break, Faryl will be back in the recording studio with her second album due to be released later this year.

Her first album, entitled Faryl, has sold 170,000 copies so far but there are hopes it will sell 300,000.

In recent weeks, she has performed again with opera star Katherine Jenkins and attended the premiere of the latest Harry Potter film. She was also invited to a polo match hosted by glamour model Jordan.

Her loyal fans in Kettering contacted the Evening Telegraph to pass on their birthday wishes.

Among them were three young sisters who are big fans – Destiny Parker-Rivers, three, Trinity Parker-Rivers, five, and Felicity Parker-Rivers, two, from Kettering.

Destiny said: "Happy Birthday Faryl. We love listening to your album."

Another fan, who described herself as "an old lady who appreciates her", added her best wishes, saying: "Faryl, I wish you every happiness on your birthday and every success for the future."

Richard Smith, 37, in Kettering, also rang in to say: "Happy birthday and all the best for the future."

Pat Bird, from Higham Ferrers Tourism, said: "Have a happy birthday and congratulations on your achievements so far."

Faryl is preparing for a Saga cruise around Denmark where she will entertain passengers.
