Three women are in East Glamorgan Hospital receiving treatment.

Grace is old and world-weary, nearing death. Lucy is foolishly self-deluding. And then there’s Marlene, hopelessly optimistic.

Each woman must cope not only with the uncertainties of her health, but with the inevitable secrets and half-truths which are maintained by relations and nursing staff.

It’s up to Marlene, the strongest and most outspoken of them all, to lift the atmosphere.

It’s a task that comes easily to her – you could say she has the gift of the gab – and soon she is forcing herself into the private lives of Lucy and Grace.
