A new circus will perform for the very first time in Kettering this week.
The Mr Fips Wonder Circus has arrived in town and will take place every day from tomorrow until Monday.
The big top has been erected at Wicksteed Park and audiences can expect everything from contortionists to old-fashioned slapstick comedy.
Jan Brenner, also known as Mr Fips the clown, said: “This will be the first ever performance of the Wonder Circus.
“I have spent the past 35 years clowning all over the world but my wife and I decided to put on our own circus this time.
“I’ve been lucky enough to perform with the likes of Robbie Williams, Madonna and Take That but this has always been the dream.”
Mr Brenner’s father, Charlie the clown, will also perform. He has toured the world for the past 55 years doing slapstick comedy.
But it has not all been fun and games for the circus, with the Captive Animals’ Protection Society asking people to boycott the shows in protest against the use of animals.
Mr Brenner was keen to set the record straight, however, insisting that his circus only uses dressage horses.
He added: “We have two beautiful Andalusian stallions belonging to my wife.
“They have been with us for many years and perform only dressage, which is something they have been bred for.
“It’s not like we’re shooting rabbits out of cannons.”
Mr Brenner urged people to make up their own minds by attending one of the shows.
Tickets cost from £8 for adults and £7 for children and are available from the park’s box office or by calling 07719 877422.
