Starting this Sunday, Holdenby is extending its season into October because of the enthusiastic take up of tickets in July and August.

Usually, the gardens would have closed for the year last weekend but due to the garden and falconry’s surge in popularity over the summer, this meant that tickets sold out very quickly. Take-up of these tickets have since shown no sign of diminishing so the decision was made to keep the renowned house open for two more weeks.

James Lowther, owner of Holdenby House, said: “We have had such a great response to our garden openings this year, that we have decided to keep them open for at least another two Sundays.

“I think the chance to walk the beautiful grounds where King Charles I walked 375 years ago and see the sorts of birds of prey that he would have flown is still a powerful draw and we wanted to stay open as part of Radio Northampton’s celebration of our wonderful county and its treasures.”

Holdenby was one of only eight houses in the UK to appear in the Smithsonian Channel’s ‘An American Aristocrat’s Guide to Great Estates’ and it was where the BBC’s production of ‘Great Expectations’ was filmed. It was recently named as one of the most ‘Instagrammable’ locations in Northamptonshire by the Chronicle and Echo.

Tickets for the opening may be purchased on Holdenby's website.
