A young entrepreneur has launched a 1950s-themed unisex salon in Corby town centre. Beauty therapist Gem Cowie, 24, opened Gem’s Beauty in Elizabeth Street on Monday. She will be offering a range of treatments from her retro salon.

She said: “I really love the vintage 1950s look and that sort of style and I thought of extending it. I would say it is a modern salon with a 1950s twist with up-to-date treatments, but not like a modern salon.”

She welcomed her customers to an open day to unveil the salon which is decorated with pictures of the former Tresham College student Miss Cowie’s idol Marilyn Monroe.

She thanked Principal Link for providing the premises.
