Saints favourite Christian Day was like a lamb to the slaughter in front of MasterChef judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace last night.

Franklin's Gardens fans were gutted as the former Northampton forward reached the last seven on the cult telly cooking show only for the judges to give his two lamb dishes the thumbs down.

The 6ft 5in gentle giant, who hung up his boots in 2018 after a ten-year career with Saints, admitted: "If you're saying lamb is main part of dish, you can't get it wrong twice.

"I made the same mistake twice and you get pulled up for that kind of thing in a MasterChef semi-final

"I'm very sad to leave the show, but I’m pretty sure I’ve made some friends for life. I've met some amazing people and really proud to get to the final seven. I'll walk out with head held high."
