According to the My McDonald's smartphone app the Riverside Retail Park drive-thru and two in Wellingborough were due to open today for the first time in ten weeks.

But then a list issued on the McDonald's website said the three drive-thrus were NOT opening today.

A spokesman for McDonald's UK said: "We are looking into this and will get back to you as soon as possible."

Details on which drive-thrus will be opened on which days are being released each morning just an hour before restaurants are due to open.

A McDonald's statement said: "924 drive-thru restaurants will reopen between June 2 and June 4.

"To help our smaller teams, we will be offering a limited menu (no breakfast, wraps or shakes) over reduced hours (11am to 10pm).

"Our teams are adjusting to new safety and hygiene procedures which will help them to work safely and social distance; we appreciate your continued patience.

"We are delighted to be returning to communities across the UK but it will look different and will take a little longer. Please bear with us."

McDonalds opened 39 drive-thrus a fortnight ago but caused a storm by focusing on areas close to its UK distribution centres.

Six of the newly reopened restaurants were in Peterborough — leading to it being dubbed McPeterborough — yet huge queues still greeted Ronald's return.
