Wicksteed Park's 100 years in pictures: part one

Take a look at the park's history

Everyone loves Wicksteed Park.

It was founded by Charles Wicksteed, who bought the land in 1913 and initially wanted to build a model village.

But after the First World War and housing reforms he decided to create a park for local people to spend their leisure time, with the park opening in 1921.

Fast forward 100 years and although the park has not fully re-opened, having closed last year in the pandemic, it is still loved across the county.

This is the first part in a series of picture specials illustrating its 100-year history, featuring images from the 1920s.
