A Wellingborough teenager has set himself the challenge of walking the height of Mount Everest 10 times this month with 10kg on his back.

Ben Streeton is taking part in 'Operation Never Rest' in support of Sporting Minds UK, a charity which helps young people who struggle with mental health through sport.

The 15-year-old from Sir Christopher Hatton Academy in Wellingborough said: "I know this is going to be hard with a walk every three days in the month of July and my legs will be sore, but it is nothing compared to what people with mental health go through.

"I want to show people who go through these times that they can have these problems but can still keep on going and achieve what they want in life."

Ben's walks during the month will take him to locations in and around Wellingborough, including Irchester, Finedon and Great Doddington.

He has carefully measured each of the routes so they cover 5.5 miles, the height of Mount Everest, and once he leaves his house, he doesn't stop for a break, sit down or take his bag off.

Ben has had great support so far from family and friends, and told the Northants Telegraph: "The support I have received is amazing.

"I never thought I would hit £50 and I got it in a day, £100 in three days."

His fundraising total has now reached £160 but he wants to keep the donations coming in and raise as much as possible for Sporting Minds UK.

Ben is keeping people up-to-date with the challenge via @bphotography126 on Twitter, @OperationNeverRest on Facebook and @operation_never.rest on Instagram.
