Northamptonshire is one of four new areas to take on the programme.

Russell Muirhead, clinical director at Living Well Taking Control said: “Across these new regions, we’re now busy working in partnership with the local health economy to meet the needs of the local communities.

“This is vital given that more than 11,000 people across the region are at high risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.”

As part of the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, group and one-to-one educational support sessions will be delivered over nine months, in a bid to enable long term behavioural change, giving patients the information they need to make healthy choices.

Sessions will cover key topics such as understanding the risks of diabetes, behaviour change techniques, healthy lifestyles and mental wellbeing.

Alongside the structured education programme, there will be personalised digital health coaching to patients via an app.
