Government website reveals where virus is spreading slowest through towns and villages

These are the areas in Northamptonshire where numbers of Covid-19 cases are falling fastest.

Latest Government figures show Northampton and East Northants now has most of the areas where the virus is spreading fastest — but Corby, in particular, is bucking the trend with three areas among those seeing significant falls in the number of new positive tests.

Data analysts use areas of roughly equal population — known as Middle Layer Super Output Areas — each with an average of 7,200 people.

They allow a four or five day period after raw data is published for corrections to be made, convert the figure into a figure assuming each area had a population of 100,000 then add the numbers to an interactive map.

Latest numbers available up to October 29 show the new of new tests — using postcodes to identify locations — are down by 73 per cent in Corby North since the previous week — an area which has a weekly average of 42 new cases per 100,000 of population.

That compares to a county average of around 145.

Corby Lodge Park and the MSOA combining Rowlett, Gretton & Cottingham have also seen big falls in the number of new lab-confirmed positive tests.

Rixon and Redwell areas of Wellingborough; plus parts of Kettering have also seen noticeable falls.

Such areas are few and far between, however, as England heads into a second lockdown on Thursday facing at least four weeks with non-essential shops, pubs, hairdressers and gyms all closed in a bid to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

East Northants has seen huge increases in the number of new positive tests with Oundle, Warmington and Titchmarsh reporting a 262 per cent rise week-on-week and a rolling weekly rate of 272.7 cases per 100,000.

In Northampton, Blackthorn & Lings has a rolling rate of 332.2 per 100,000 — more than double the county average.
