Three more patients have died at Northampton General Hospital after contracting Covid-19.

The hospital released a statement today (Monday March 30) confirming the deaths which take the total in Northamptonshie to six.

Mr Matthew Metcalfe, medical director for Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust, said: “Sadly we can confirm that three patients who had been tested positive for Covid-19 have died.

"The families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time."

Public Health England's latest figures issued today listed 180 more people have died nationwide, pushing the UK total lover 1,400.

No further details are being released regarding the latest deaths at Northampton General Hospital.

A 92-year-old man died at the hospital on March 16 and the hospital confirmed a second death, a 78-year-old man last Thursday. Both had underlying health issues.

Father-of-two Craig Ruston, a 45-year-old who had motor neurone disease, died at Kettering General Hospital a fortnight ago.

An extra 27 confirmed cases today took the total to 153 since the first was confirmed in the county on March 3.
