The Roadmender has become the latest venue in Northampton to close its doors after Government advice about the coronavirus pandemic.

Yesterday, Boris Johnson warned people to stay away from pubs, clubs and theatres but did not go as far as ordering mandatory closures.

Gigs cancelled include an appearance by former Marillion front man Fish on Saturday (March 21) and Monday's date for punk band Stiff Little Fingers plus next weekend's shows by Leee John of Imagination and Led Zeppelin tribute band Letz Zep.

In a statement online, the Roadmender said: “It’s with great sadness that under the current Government guidelines we must close the doors of Roadmender for the time being.

“All shows until the end of March will either be cancelled or rescheduled to a new date and ticket holders will be contacted directly by email regarding the status of their particular show.

“We hope this closure will be short lived and that we can welcome you back to the venue very soon.

“However, we will be monitoring the situation closely and should this period of closure extend into April, all customers will be noticed and kept up to date.

“If the show you were due to attend has been rescheduled, your ticket will be valid for the new date and no action is required.

“For any cancellations refunds will be automatically processed. Please bear with us during this during this extremely busy and unpredicted time for the team.

“We are working hard to confirm new dates, provide updates and respond to all enquiries.

“Stay safe and we hope to see you on the dance floor soon.”

The Roadmender's decision to shut its doors follows Royal & Derngate's announcement last night cancelling screenings in its Northampton Filmhouse and that the main theatre will be closed.

The theatre's management are expected to make further announcements later today (Tuesday March 17).
