Children in Corby and Kettering are being urged to put their artistic skills to the test to add a splash of colour to two Covid-19 testing sites.

Corby Council and Kettering Council want youngsters to submit artwork to be displayed at the testing sites, which will be in the towns for the foreseeable future.

They want to give people a reason to smile when they get tested for the virus at either the London Road car park in Kettering or James Ashworth VC Square in Corby. Both centres are open from 8am to 8pm seven days a week.

The councils want to see positive, colourful creations, such as rainbows, flowers, animals, pretty landscapes and more.

If you would like to submit some artwork to be displayed, take a copy with your name and age (optional) to the following locations, depending on which borough you live in:

Kettering residents:

Send by post to: Communications, Kettering Borough Council, Bowling Green Road, NN15 7QX

Or, if you are dropping off the artwork directly to the council offices, post through the outdoor letterbox to the right of the entrance doors.

Corby residents:

Drop the artwork to the entrance of the testing centre at James Ashworth VC Square. You do not need to enter the testing centre, someone will be manning the entrance every day from 8am to 8pm.

Cllr Lesley Thurland, deputy leader of Kettering Council, said: “We are looking forward to seeing some new, colourful masterpieces added to the testing centres to lift people’s spirits and give some of the community’s young, budding artists the opportunity to showcase their creative work when residents are taking the test for Covid-19.

"We would also like to remind residents to follow national guidance to keep yourself and others safe.”

Cllr Jean Addison, deputy leader of Corby Council, said: “Whilst it only takes five minutes to be tested for coronavirus, some colour in the testing centre would of course give the place a happier feel.

"It’s important for everyone’s spirits to be lifted during this time so why not be a part of the Covid response by giving people a reason to smile when they enter the testing centre.”
