A Burton Latimer primary has sent Year 1 and 2 pupils home today after a member of the school has tested positive for coronavirus.

St Mary’s CE Primary Academy asked parents to come and collect their children today after a case became known to them.

An electronic message that went out to parents said: “Sadly we have been informed this morning of a case of an individual who has tested positive in our Year 1 and 2 bubble. DfE has informed us we need to send all Year 1 and Year 2 children home as soon as possible.

“The school remains open to all other year groups.”

According to latest data released by Northants’ public health team, the Burton Latimer, Broughton and Mawsley ward has had the twelfth highest number of cases in the 28 days up to October 11, with 24 cases in total.

The school is one of a growing number who have been sending pupils home to self isolate. Ferrers School and Manor School Sports College in Raunds have told dozens of pupils to self isolate and Henry Chichele Primary School closed on Monday because staff self isolation requirements had left it to conclude it could not remain open safely.

Three schools in Northampton have also closed.

Northants parents have been asked by the director of Public Health Lucy Wightman to ensure their children only socialise outside this coming half term holiday – which starts on Monday – and not to organise any sleepovers.
