The owners of four major Northampton pubs, clubs and restaurants say they are "doing the right thing" by closing their doors during the coronavarus pandemic.

Brooklyn Social burger joint and Sazerac cocktail bar in the town centre, plus the Old House and Lighthouse in Wellingborough Road have all shut with immediate effect in the wake of Boris Johnson's plea for people not to go out unless it is absolutely necessary to avoid spreading the Covid-19 infection.

A statement for Seven Spirit Ltd, which owns all four venues, said: "The health of our customers and staff is our No1 priority and we believe this is the right thing to do.

"The Prime Minister said it's better for people not to go out, so that's why we're taking this measure now.

"We've had conversations with local MPs Andrew Lewer and Andrea Leadsom and they have both been very supportive and we thank them for that."
