Corby's Lodge Park Academy is the latest county school to have some students and staff self-isolating after a case of Covid-19.

A Year 9 pupil at the Shetland Way school has tested positive for the virus and the classrooms they were in last week have been deep cleaned.

In a statement this morning, principal Carly Waterman said: "In line with the Department for Education and Public Health England’s advice, students and staff who had close contact with the student are now self-isolating and will return to school on October 5. A deep clean of the classrooms that the student was in last week has already taken place.

"In the meantime, we will provide virtual learning for any pupils who are self-isolating, so that their learning can continue uninterrupted.

"Only students and staff who have had contact with the confirmed case, or been within a close proximity of the case, are required to self-isolate. To all other students, the school remains open as normal.

"We remain confident that the measures we have taken to mitigate the risk of transmission of the virus in school are robust. The safety of everyone in our school community, and their families, remains our top priority.

"We would like to thank all our students and staff for following our safety measures so rigorously. We would also like to thank our parents for being so supportive, patient and understanding. We continue to highly recommend that all students wear face coverings in school."

Cases have already been confirmed at Corby's Beanfield Primary School, Studfall Junior Academy and Hazel Leys Primary Academy this month.

Other educational settings to be affected in north Northamptonshire include Kettering's Tresham College campus, Sir Christopher Hatton Academy in Wellingborough, Kettering's Bishop Stopford School and Kettering Buccleuch Academy and more.

At a press conference on Friday Cllr Fiona Baker, cabinet member for education at Northamptonshire County Council, said all 326 of the county's schools had re-opened for the new academic year and that 95 per cent had fully re-opened.
