The first A-Level results are in - and it's another outstanding performance by pupils at Huxlow Science College in Irthlingborough.

Covid-19 may have prevented pupils from sitting exams this year, but students are still receiving results today (Thursday) based on teacher assessment grades which have then been standardised.

And results at Huxlow have seen 96 per cent of students who applied to university accepting a place at one of their first choices.

Headteacher Steve Gordon said: “These are excellent outcomes for our students who have studied towards their A-Levels and BTECs for two years.

"It is down to the hard work of both students and staff. We have offered high quality careers advice to ensure that all students have studied courses that are well tailored to their talents and aspirations. This has resulted in record numbers gaining entry to prestigious Russell Group universities as well as sought-after apprenticeships, further education and employment

prospects."

This year BTEC vocational students performed well in sport and applied science with some triple distinction*s paving the way to health and nutrition and nursing.

At A-Level results have enabled pupils to claim places at prestigious universities including Cambridge with others gaining places at Keele, Warwick, UCL, Edinburgh and Nottingham to read law, medicine, computational physics and more.

Hard work has also helped other students to earn places on exciting courses such as cyber security, criminology, digital film production and a highly sought after place at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance.

Aside from university places Huxlow students have also secured prestigious higher-level apprenticeships including accounting with Grant Thornton and dental nursing.

Huxlow Science College is part of East Northamptonshire College, where the three schools of Ferrers, Huxlow and Rushden work in partnership and post-16 students are taught by teachers across the three sites.
