Corby teacher's lockdown learning page is a worldwide hit
Thousands of parents are using the page to help teach their children at home
Parents around the world are getting daily ideas to help their children have fun while learning at home - all thanks to a Corby teacher.
Caroline Haynes, a Year 2 teacher at Beanfield Primary School, set up Facebook page 'Making Learning Fun with Mrs H' when the country first went into lockdown in March last year.
After seeing parents panicking about how to home-school their children when schools closed, it was when she was out running that she had the 'lightbulb moment' of setting up the page to post ideas.
At first it was set up to help her friends - but just under a year later she has more than 11,000 followers from as far afield as America, Pakistan, Australia and New Zealand.
Caroline, who is also an early years specialist, said: "It grew and grew and went a bit mad.
"It's gone all over the world and has been shared by lots of schools.
"It's just completely blown my mind."
On the page she shares daily posts with ideas to help children learn, using things most people have at home and don't have to buy.
One recent post suggests getting children to measure their feet or shoes, asking them to record the results and encouraging them to talk about the results using mathematical language
Another suggests putting cotton wool in an empty egg shell, adding cress seeds and water and exploring how plants grow.
The page has been a huge success and recently got a shoutout from legend Chris Evans on Virgin Radio, who went through the page on air reading out some of the ideas she had posted.
Caroline, who has been a teacher for eight years, has even been approached to do a book on the ideas and is in the process of creating a website to put them all in one place.
She said: "As long as people keep liking it I'm going to keep on doing it.
"I am a great believer that not all learning has to be in a classroom but all learning has to be fun."
