Warning issued across Northamptonshire after men impersonate council workers contractors to tarmac drives

Businesses in Northamptonshire have been warned after two apparent scams by people offering to tarmac drives.

Northamptonshire County Council’s Trading Standards Service are warning businesses to be aware of approaches by contractors offering to tarmac driveways with “left over “materials.

Two complaints have been received in the last week from local businesses who have reported that they have been approached by men who have stated that they are working on behalf of the council on local road improvements.

The contractors have gone on to say that at the end of the job they have left over tarmac that they would have to throw way if it was not laid, and that they would return at the end of the week to complete the work at a low price.

At one of the incidents the business owner went out and on his return tarmac had been laid to a very poor standard. The contractor then tried to charge a very high price.

Consumers can reports complaints to Trading Standards via the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 03454 04 05 06.

Trading Standards advice is to never purchase goods or services at the doorstep, and to obtain quotes from local reputable companies.
