Five award-winning rural enterprises have teamed up to make lockdown life just a little bit sweeter for country-loving singles.

Country life dating experts Muddy Matches, who are based in Farndish near Wellingborough, have teamed up with four county-based businesses to offer people a chance to enjoy virtual ‘tasting’ dates - all showcasing the best of local food and drink and local business.

Muddy Matches is collaborating with Saxby’s Cider, also of Farndish, Jelley’s Organic Vodka of Brixworth, Amp Wine Merchants in Oundle and Hustle Botanical Gin in Castle Ashby.

The concept takes zoom quizzes, skype video chats and houseparty get-togethers to the next level by introducing a shared product to enjoy and review.

Virtual dates using video calls have proved hugely popular during the lockdown as single people date from a distance while also connecting couples enduring lockdown apart.

The launch of virtual ‘tasting’ dates to 300,000 singletons registered to Muddy Matches will start by championing a selection of fine craft ciders, specially curated cases of wines, organic vodka cocktails and a botanical gin.

In exclusive arrangements, members registered to Muddy Matches are offered the chance to order local produce at exclusive rates direct from the supplier, then identify the one their heart desires on video calls with like-minded people.

Lucy Reeves, co-founder of Muddy Matches, said: “Virtual dates are all the rage at the moment but we wanted to put a muddy twist on things and put some much deserved spotlight on local produce and local business whilst folk were at it.

“We have some gorgeous produce on our doorstep in Northamptonshire and this should be celebrated.

“As a brand with deep roots in country life, it is important that Muddy Matches pledge our support to local businesses, back British food and farms in all their splendour where we can at this time.

“These muddy, but tasty, virtual dates take artisan food to a new audience and hopefully they will find something to their liking.”

Online dating with Muddy Matches has blossomed since lockdown as more people look online for the comfort of companionship, new faces to talk to and crave a sense of purpose and self-worth that matching based on shared interests can bring.

Muddy Matches welcomed their 500,000th member onto the country life dating platform last week; a milestone which was anticipated to be reached later this Autumn, such has been the demand.

Muddy Matches will extend the virtual tasting date concept into other artisan produce from across the country over the coming weeks – with artisan cheeses, chocolate, fudge and coffee all on the menu.
