Sausage roll fans will be able to get their Greggs fix again from tomorrow (Thursday) when the food giant opens 800 UK stores for takeaways.

The chain, loved by many for its savoury pastries and sweet treats, closed its branches when the Covid-19 pandemic started as the country battled to contain the virus.

Now it will re-open 800 tomorrow with an aim of opening the remaining 1,000 in July.

There will be new guidelines in place to help shoppers keep their distance with only one adult per household allowed in the shop, although children can join them.

There will be floor markings to guide people around the shop, only card payments will be accepted and there will be 30-minute cleans for all equipment and key touchpoints.

There will also be a reduced menu, although favourites such as the sausage roll and steak bake - and their vegan alternatives - as well as pizza slices remain.
