An exact date for when the stores will reopen was not given, but a source told us: "The objective is to open from May 18 though there is anxiety about how it can be managed."

IKEA was one of the first major retailers to shut its stores on March 20, the day before Britain went into lockdown.

But now the company has responded to the claims, insisting the Milton Keynes store will NOT re-open next Monday.

"As you know, our stores across the UK and Ireland are currently closed to customers and, with lots of different information out there in the news at the moment, we know you might be wondering about when they might reopen," a spokesman for IKEA told the MK Citizen on Wednesday.

"We wanted to clarify that we will only reopen our stores to customers as the situation allows and in line with government guidance.

"We have no set date yet for when that will be and would like to clarify that this will not be next Monday... we do not wish to disappoint our valued customers (by allowing them to believe that will be the case)."
