More will open on Wednesday and Thursday but details on which drive-thrus will be opened on which days will only be released each morning from June 2.

All McDonald's restaurants will be offering a limited menu and operating over reduced hours, not opening until 11am.

A McDonald's statement said: "following a successful pilot we can confirm that 924 drive-thru restaurants will reopen between June 2 and June 4. we will also add 75 restaurants to McDelivery via either Uber Eats or Just Eat.

"We continue to ask that you limit your spend to £25 and use contactless payment methods wherever possible."

"Our teams are adjusting to new safety and hygiene procedures which will help them to work safely and social distance; we appreciate your continued patience.

"We are delighted to be returning to communities across the UK but it will look different and will take a little longer. Please bear with us.

"Through our website and social media channels we will confirm the locations of the reopening restaurants on each morning from June 2."

McDonalds opened 39 drive-thrus last week but caused a storm by focusing on areas close to its UK distribution centres.

Six of the newly reopened restaurants were in Peterborough — leading to it being dubbed McPeterborough — yet huge queues still greeted Ronald's return.
