A Rushden Lakes spokesman said: "Unfortunately due to the very heavy rain over the weekend, Boots is closed today due to flooding.

People were warned not to travel to Wellingborough with water cascading down the town centre streets.

Northamptonshire Weather, which monitors the county’s weather conditions, said on social media that a weather station in Wellingborough recorded 45mm of rain between 4.10pm and 5.10pm - the same as the average monthly August rainfall.

More thunderstorms are forecast for today with further risk of flash flooding.
