Uni students to stage Shakespeare classics at Royal & Derngate

Acting students from The University of Northampton will be taking to the stage at the Royal & Derngate next week to perform in two Shakespeare classics.

The three-day run of six shows will form part of the students’ final portfolio of work.

The students have prepared stagings of Romeo and Juliet, directed by Ria Parry, and Twelfth Night, directed by James Farrell.

Twelfth Night, a tale of love triangles and the search for love, will take place on Thursday, March 7 and Saturday, March 9 at 7.45pm, with a matinee on Friday, March 8, at 1.30pm.

Meanwhile, Romeo and Juliet, The Bard’s famous tale of forbidden love and passion, will be performed at 1.30pm on March 7 and 9, with an evening performance on March 8 at 7.45pm.

Director Ria Parry said: “I’m thrilled to be working with The University of Northampton final year students on such a fantastic play. Romeo and Juliet has everything you’d want from a story - love, danger, adventure - and I’m sure the cast will embrace the challenge with an exciting energy and style.”

James Farrell commented: “I’m really excited to be working with the class of 2013 on Twelfth Night. Their ideas, passion and focus are the perfect recipe for a great production.”
