Stage is set for the new season

A line up of top comedians, hysterical plays, gripping drama and toe-tapping musicals are among the highlights for the autumn season at the Royal and Derngate in Northampton.

David Hasselhoff, Paddy McGuinness and Claire Sweeney among the starring names on the stage.

Drama fans will be in for a treat with the classic whodunnit The Mousetrap coming to the stage from September 7-12.

The work of Daphne du Maurier which was adapted for the big screen by Alfred Hitchcock comes to Northampton. Rebecca, a play all about a study in jealousy, is performed from November 9-14.

The theatre’s in house production team will also be busy in the autumn. The next home made show is Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. It runs from September 4-26. The show stars Sophie Ward who has appeared in Young Sherlock Holmes.

Brassed Off and Game of Thrones actress Tara Fitzgerald will star in Gaslight to be performed from October 16 to November 7. It tells the story of Bella Manningham loosing her mind while the lights flicker and floorboards creek.

One of the most beloved musicals will also be coming to Northampton. Brookside’s Claire Sweeney, Blue Peter’s Peter Duncan and Benidorm’s Tony Maudsley will be transported to 1960s Baltimore for Hairspray from September 28 to October 3.

The Northampton Musical Theatre Company is bringing the much loved show Sister Act to the stage from October 27 to 31.

It sees the wannabe diva Deloris Van Cartier who is put into hiding in a convent by the police after witnessing a terrible crime.

Baywatch and Knight Rider’s David Hasselhoff is also starring in a musical featuring music from the 80s and 90s entitled Last Night A DJ Saved My Life.

The show runs from November 4-7 and he plays an extrovert, party going DJ set in Ibiza.

The audience will be rolling in the aisles with laughter as the award winning Jeeves and Wooster star in Perfect Nonsense. It comes to Northampton from October 5 to 10.

There are also several comedians bringing their latest stand up shows to Northampton.

Kettering born comedian James Acaster brings his Represent show to Northampton on Thursday October 1.

Take Me Out host Paddy McGuinness will be exploring the themes of fatherhood in Daddy McGuinness on October 8.

Star of Radio Four Hal Cruttenden comes to Northampton on November 11 and there will be surrealism from Noel Fielding on November 22.
