Franklin's Gardens favourite Christian Day will have his army of Black, Green and Gold fans glued to their telly tonight (Monday, March 30) as he cooks up another treat in the MasterChef kitchen.

Sadly, though, for the former Northampton Saints rugby star they may not be a pie in sight!

Just in case you missed it, Christian wowed judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace with a cod dish and almond cake dessert in heats earlier this month — despite confessing he is more of "a pie man".

Just to prove it, the 6ft 5in lock forward, who hung up his boots in 2018 after a ten-year Saints career, posted a photo of a tasty-looking cottage pie on social media.

Now, though, it just gets hotter in the kitchen as the remaining 16 contestants are split into two groups and, in tonight's hour-long episode, Christian and his party of eight must cook a dish for John and Gregg that they would have on the menu of their own restaurant, pop-up or feature in their cookbook.

Only five will survive that challenge, then head to East London to work in Michelin-starred restaurant Da Terra and serve lunch to paying customers with dishes created by Brazilian-born chef Rafael Cagali inspired by his South American roots and time spent in Europe and Asia.

Knockout week ends on Friday with a challenge to make canapes or party food which will decide the final nine to go into next week's semi-finals.

MasterChef is on BBC1 tonight and Wednesday at 9pm. Catch up with all the previous heats on the iPlayer.
