With large public gatherings off the cards for many people at the moment, the drive-in movie might just be the short-term future of cinema.

Two venues just over the Northants border are offering big drive-in movie events during the warm summer months that could provide a solution for a post-Covid film-going market concerned about social distancing.

From August 13, the Adventure Drive-In visits Huntingdon Racecourse with matinees and evening showings of a range of retro movies including Grease, Back to the Future, The Lion King and The Joker.

Then, from August 21, the attraction will be at the East of England Arena at Alwalton, just a few miles from East Northants, showing films including Groundhog Day, Knives Out, Dirty Dancing and Pretty Woman.

Film-goers can watch the movies from the comfort of their own cars and can bring their own refreshments and popcorn.

The company says: “Cars provide built-in social distancing and will be parked to allow plenty of space should you need to leave your vehicle to use the on-site facilites.
